RVSM stands for Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum. It has to do with more modern equipment allowing control to reduce the vertical separation between flight levels. Both USA and European airspace allows for filing a flight at even levels above FS290: 300, 320, etc. It practically doubles the amount of airspace available.
