If you chose the Maximum Retirement Allowance (single life annuity) or Option 1 (the prorated single life annuity) and marry after retirement, you may have your benefits recalculated under Option 2 or Option 4A to provide benefits for a spouse. The recalculation of benefits is effective the first of the month after PERS receives a completed Form R. There will be a reduction in your benefits due to the beneficiary protection.
