I received two beautiful Easter lilies this year and would like to plant them in the garden. Where is the best spot, and what care is needed?
Help your plants rebloom next year by giving them a sunny location , in a sandy site enriched with organic matter. Remove the plants from the container without disturbing the root ball, and set it in the ground with the top of the root ball level with the surface of the soil. Then add a thin layer of mulch. Keep the lily growing by maintaining a moist soil and feeding lightly once a month with a general garden fertilizer. The leaves and stems should decline by early summer, and the plant can be cut back to the ground. Mark the spot with a plant tag so you won’t disturb the bulb. You can expect new growth around March and flowers by next May.
