I received a letter from ChoicePoint that they had provided information to the league about a sexual offense for someone with my name, but its not me! What do I do??
A. There are approximately 10 states that still perform a name-only search for sexual offenders. This means that they use only the name of the individual when conducting a search, not additional information (e.g. birth date, social security number) that would help narrow the search. This occasionally results in a false hit where an individual with the same name comes back as part of the search. In this case, Lincroft Little League will manually conduct a search of the state sexual offender registry, and use information that you have provided (e.g. photo ID, birth date) to determine whether there is a match. We will also notify you via email that this has taken place, and will let you know the results of our search. In most cases, we determine that there is no match between the individual in the criminal record and the coach/volunteer. If you have any questions you may contact us directly.
