I receive requests for tent inspections from various organizations. Are the organizations required to have tent permits?
A. Yes, a permit and approval. But, there are stipulations as to size and type of air-supported membrane structure, tent or canopy. Air-supported membrane structures and tents having an area in excess of 200 square feet, and canopies in excess of 400 square feet would be required to be approved and a permit issued. Tents, air-supported membrane structures or canopies in excess of those sizes previously listed that are erected on state property must have a permit from Division of Industrial Compliance, when a permit is not issued by the local fire official.
