I purchased an OWC Mercury FireWire case for my Lite-On CD-RW mechanism (any Lite-On faster than 32x is affected by this problem). The drive is not showing up properly – why?

Lite-On drive mechanisms faster than 32x do not come out of reset mode fast enough for the FireWire bridge chip to recognize that a valid drive is ready to mount. To cure this problem, you have to manually edit the firmware on the FireWire bridge to specific settings. Click HERE to view a .gif of the proper settings. Use the OWC Mercury FireWire firmware software (downloadable HERE) to edit the firmware to the settings in the picture. The Wait 6 seconds before polling drive and DMA0 options are the most critical. The Lite-On drive is out of spec compared to mechanisms that OWC uses for our own prebuilt CD-RW drive solutions, and that is why our cases are not set up to use Lite-On mechanisms.
