I paid for the CDs. Why do I need a PPCA licence to play them in my business?
The possession of sound recordings or music videos does not carry any right to undertake their public performance or broadcast. A PPCA licence (or a licence from the copyright holder) must be obtained in advance, whenever protected sound recordings or music video clips are to be subject to a public performance, broadcast or communication. There is a notice like this on almost every CD, tape or record sold by retailers: “Unauthorised copying, hiring, public performance and broadcasting of this recording prohibited”.
