• The site is not prohibited from using non-food grade lubricants appropriately. That is why we ask for identification and segregation of food grade and non-food grade lubricants as part of lubrication control programs. We do specify in the standards that food grade lubricants be used on food processing and packaging machinery where incidental product contact may occur to protect the product and product zone from contamination through the use of non-food grade lubricants. Food grade lubricants are not toxic, however; contamination with leaking food grade lubricants is not acceptable and would be considered product contamination.
