I noticed water being drained out of the lake – what is the purpose of this and how will it affect ground water in the area?
The water you are seeing is being removed from the soil to ensure the water table isn’t affected during the development of the harbour. This process is called “dewatering” and involves the use of dewatering pumps, which you may see on the construction site. Dewatering is undertaken to reduce the impact on ground water levels and maintains the water level underground during this construction process.
