Because of that HF is stored in a plastic bottle. NaOH, sodium hydroxide (commonly called lye) will also react although slowly. You should check with your Geology Department in your local college and ask if they have a procedure for testing and identifying minerals. Some of the tests will involve hardness tests, color, crystal shapes and other tests.
