I love giving rawhide bones as treats, but you recommend Nylabones. How are they different?
Rawhide, as it is unhealthy and dangerous for your dog to chew, can cause possessive and/or aggressive behavior if there is more than one dog in the house. Because it is a meat product, it hosts thousands of bacteria when it has been chewed, which not only spreads in your dog’s mouth, but all over your house as well making it a very unsanitary product. It is also very hard for your dog to digest. Nylabones are wonderful because they satisfy the urge to chew, but can be sanitized by simply boiling them in water. Also, your dog can’t bite pieces off, just tiny shavings that are designed to pass through your dog’s body freely without any problem.
