The Okefenokee Humane Society is licensed to operate by the Georgia Department of Agriculture. They require that all animals adopted out of shelters, humane societies and rescues must be spayed or neutered by the age of 5 months, and proof of this spaying/neutering must be provided to the Georgia Department of Agriculture within 30 days of the puppy or kitten turning five (5) months old. Failure to do this will result in closure of the shelter. OHS does not have authority to enforce spaying/neutering outside of Ware County. For this reason, we cannot adopt puppies and kittens under the age of five (5) months to people who live outside of Ware County. 6.
