Candlestick Park was as bad as everyone says it is/was. The announced game time temperature at night would be 70 degrees, then the fog would come over the hills and it would drop 10 to 20 degrees in a minutes. The day games were worse. The winds and sun made every pop up and adventure and blew the dirt off the infield, leaving a hard surface. You were called up as part of the expanded rosters after the strike ended in ’81. Did that provide the opportunity, or would you have gotten the call regardless? I wasn’t called up when they expanded the rosters. I joined the Giants in early August along with Dane Leonard and Bob Brenly. The Giants released Billy North, Mike Sadek and Randy Moffitt and we took their places. I wasn’t even on the 40 man roster, so who knows if I would have had a chance to get called up in September. The strike probably created the opportunity for me to play.
