Since MPEG-4 defines “audio-visual objects” rather than “programs”, it was decided to rename the “program clock reference” to an “object clock reference”. An object clock reference is a sample from an object time base. Different objects within the same presentation may have different object time bases, even though this may make tight synchronization impossible.
