Brilliant film – my favorite of 2006 and one of the best movies of the last decade! I’ll try to give you a brief rundown of what was happening: Let’s start from the “present day” storyline of Tommy (Hugh Jackman) and Izzi (Rachel Weiss). Tommy is an obsessive scientist researching brain tumors in an attempt to find a cure for his wife Izzi’s tumor. Izzi accepts her fate and spends her last days writing a book called “The Fountain.” However, she does not write the last chapter, instead leaving it for Tommy to finish. Tommy discovers a cure for the tumor (made from bark of the “Tree of Life,” but I’ll get to that in just a bit), but he is too late and Izzi passes away. Tommy later reads the story Izzi wrote and so begins one of the other narratives – this one with the Conquistadors. This story concerns Tomas (NOTE – Tomas looks just like Tommy because Izzi based this character on her husband and his obsession with eternal life), who is sent on a quest for the Tree of Life by the Queen of
