I just purchased my PSU, looking at the ATX connector (20/24 pin large connector on the PSU), there are only 19/23 wires in it (1 missing). Did I received a faulty unit?

No. Modern (2004 or newer, but there will be a few exceptions) motherboards no longer need a -5V power source anymore. The missing pin/wire would have provided that power.
