I just purchased a used 00 Montero Sport ES and was thinking of adding the factory foglamps to my ride. Is my ES prewired to accept this accessory?
A- To sum it up- YES, ALL Montero Sports have been prewired for factory foglamps since the mid-98 production year. The wiring is tucked away behind the bumper cover. The 2K and newer models offer an Accessory KIT complete with switch, relay, harness, brackets, and lamp assemblies to make the job doable for an accomplished DIY’er. The harness in the kit plugs directly into the connector behind the bumper. For those of you who want to use an aftermarket type foglamp setup- you can make the wiring job easier and cleaner by using the existing factory wiring. All you’ll need to purchase is the factory switch and foglamp relay… from there you can install your aftermarket lamps, and power them using the harness plug behind the bumper cover. 97- models had (a now discontinued) Accessory Foglamp kit (with rectangular lights in front of the grill) that included an elaborate harness to wire from the dash to the bumper.
