The PeakRewards℠ device installed in your home is referred to as a “Smart Thermostat.” A “Smart Thermostat” is used for the PeakRewards℠ program to help reduce peak demand for electricity. The “Smart Thermostat” also has other features, including online programming, advanced scheduling, touch screen programming, and other state of the art features. During periods of high electricity use in the Mid-Atlantic region, typically during the summer months, a radio signal may be sent to the Smart Thermostat to interrupt the flow of electricity to the compressor on your air conditioner or electric heat pump for a period of time each hour. This is called cycling (for more information on cycling, click here). Only electricity to the compressor is interrupted. The indoor fan will continue to run as programmed.
