samiamcdonnell – I saw this technique in Woman’s World magazine a couple of weeks ago, but haven’t tried it yet. If you dye your hair and you want to add highlights, DO NOT highlight with a standard highlight kit, but rather pick a hair dye a shade or two lighter than your hair dye to highlight your hair. If you used Nice and Easy Dark Auburn to dye your hair then use a Nice and Easy dye a shade or two lighter (like Light Auburn) to add highlights. This way you won’t end up with some really strange colored highlights. Mix the dye like you normally would but apply only where you want to add highlights.

the highlight kit that you have Will not lighten your hair past the orange. So depending on how long you leave the kit on, your hair will look like it has been scorched, or it will be just ugly orange. If I were you, i would not use the home kit, because if you do, then in just a few hours, you will be writing, and saying that you have ruined your hair and want to know what to do. To get past the orange, you will have to see a stylist, and take the box of color with you, so they can see what you have used, and also tell them what you have done to your hair in the past. with the highlight kits and so forth.
