I just checked mail, and all messages older than 60 days are gone! What happened?

The mail system has a maximum limit of 60 days set for the “leave mail on server” option. In the past, users would inadvertently set this value without a time limit. Eventually, their server-side mailbox would become very large without their knowledge. Corruptions would occur, and thousands of duplicate messages would appear. Furthermore, the “leave mail on server” option is conducive to exceeding one’s mail quota if set too high.
