The USA does not require foreign visitors to have an IDP. However, having one is a good idea even though your national license is in English. Some car rental agencies require IDPs and police who may not be familiar with a NZ license will be more comfortable if you also have an IDP. Hopefully you won’t have any negative contact with the police but it’s a possibility.
