I heard that there are alot of bugs; is that true?
Any outdoor location in a rural area located near water will have bugs. Campgrounds without bugs do not exist. During the spring (May/June), in particular, the mayflies can be a nuisance at times. They live for most of their lives in lakes and streams, emerge from the water in swarms, and only live for one day outside of the water. The good news is that mayflies do not bite, are less prevalent in July – October, and are indicators of clean water. Also, because the island usually gets some kind of breeze, the mosquitoes generally stay away. Bugs in general are attracted to light – we suggest that you use yellow “bug bulbs” for outdoor lights, citronella, bug sprays/lotions with deet, and/or outdoor insect fogger.
