I heard that the connection speed used to be faster before Apogee was hired, why has that changed?
The in-room connection speed was faster prior to the 2007-2008 academic year. The speed was changed for cost considerations related to ever-increasing bandwidth demand, the wiring system upgrades that will be done in the next several years, and because of problems with reliability with the pre-Apogee system. The system prior to 07-08 was less reliable because there was no quality of service management on the system. During peak times the system often went slower than the basic speed offered by Apogee because large downloads competed with smaller loads like web browsing on an equal basis. Under the new system you have exclusive use of your bandwidth segment so your speed is more reliable. If you have need for higher bandwidth, upgrades are available for modest cost from Apogee.
