Liver cancer is one potential complication of cirrhosis. Among the 20 percent of people with hepatitis C who develop cirrhosis, there is about a 20 percent chance that the cirrhosis will lead to cancer. Those who don’t develop cirrhosis are at no higher risk than the general population.
