I heard that Dordt College has Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Environmental, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering. Is that true?
A. No. Not quite. We offer a broad-based engineering degree with disciplinary emphases; Senior Design a degree that we feel will serve students better in today’s world than a narrow disciplinary degree. Students majoring in engineering can choose between a mechanical, electrical, civil, environmental, computer, or bioengineering emphasis. Each “emphasis” amounts to a coordinated sequence of course electives. The emphases should not be confused with majors in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering, biomedical engineering, or computer engineering. (Notice how Dordt’s Engineering Major has no adjectives that modify the word “Engineering?”) Engineering is an interdisciplinary activity. Therefore, our Christian liberal arts campus is the ideal context in which to study engineering.
