A small group of liberal arts schools (like Bates, Bard, and Bowdoin) have stopped requiring standardized tests, instead basing admission on grades, essays, recommendations, activities, and the like. If you have your heart set on one of these schools and are confident that you have what it takes to get in, then (lucky for you) you might not need to take the SAT or ACT. Nearly 99% of schools (including just about all state schools and medium to large private schools), however, require either the SAT or ACT for admission. Be sure to do your research on prospective schools before signing up for the test, but chance are youll have to take the test at some point.
