I heard something about Humic Acid causing “Blackfoot Disease.” Is this true?
Humic Acid, in small quantities, exists almost everywhere in the globe, in the soil and in the water supply. Animals and humans have been ingesting Humic Acid since the dawn of time. Nonetheless, “Blackfoot Disease” occurs only in one location in the world, the southwestern coast of Taiwan. In this location, the people used to drink from artesian wells that contained an unusually high amount of Humic Acid and a very high amount of Arsenic. We believe that the Arsenic is the culprit here, not the Humic Acid. Furthermore, in recent years the artesian water has been replaced with a piped-in supply, but oddly, the incidence of “Blackfoot Disease” actually has increased! This certainly points away from Humic Acid as a cause of the disease. more info…
