I saw The Exorcist when it first came out. When Linda Blair’s head did the 360, people lost it. Some people did actually faint. When she spewed the “pea soup”, some people vomitted. When she grabbed the cross and shoved it in her crotch, half the theatre left. It wouldn’t be extremely disturbing by today’s standards, but it was something else for its time. I didn’t think that The Devils (Vanessa Redgrave and Oliver Reed) was anything compared to The Exorcist. The Devils left more to the imagination, whereas The Exorcist was very visually graphic. Also, The Devils was set in medieval times, as opposed to The Exorcist, which was set in modern day. Have the original Exorcist on vhs and the 25th Anniversay Edition on DVD. Still think it’s pretty awesome.
