I heard of the recent 6.9 earthquake on the Kohala Coast. Are there often earthquakes on the West Coast of the Big Island?

Most earthquakes are centered around the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park where the active volcanoes like Kilauea and Mauna Loa are located. Prior to the 10/15/06 earthquake, the west coast had no major earthquakes registered in that area. Last big earthquake happened in Hilo in 1975.
