I heard my song on satellite radio, cable radio, or a webcast, why isnt it in the database?
There can often be a number of variations in the spelling of a title and/or artist. The PLAYS system will return all database entries that resemble your search. If you do not see your song, or a spelling variation of your song, there can be a number of reasons for this. With respect to webcasters, the Copyright Office determined in their final rule of September 30, 2004 that SoundExchange was to distribute 2003 webcasting royalties for which no data was provided by webcasters using the preexisting subscription services (Muzak, Music Choice and DMX) 2003 performance logs as a proxy. Therefore, if your song was streamed on the Internet in 2003, the performance logs used to make payment would not be the actual playlists from the webcaster. All other webcasting royalties and reporting is the subject of appeals and litigation, so no recordkeeping nor distributions are able to be made on those performances to date.
