If you have a history of kidney stones it is recommended that you consult your doctor before taking ellura™. In its 29 August 2003 ruling, the French Food Safety Agency refers to a single case of the development of kidney stones in a patient prone to with a history of kidney stones after taking cranberry extract pills for 6 months (Terris MK et al, Urology 2001). However, the Agency noted that “this effect was observed in a patient prone to kidney stones and could be due to the presence of oxalate [in cranberry]. Nevertheless, the amount of oxalate in Vaccinium macrocarpon does not appear to be greater than that commonly found in ordinary foods.” In practice, there is no proven link between kidney stones and a normal consumption of ellura™.
