I heard about a potential security problem involving Java and Internet Explorer 5. How does this impact me?
Microsoft is aware of an issue with Java in Internet Explorer 5 for Mac that is caused be the way in which we have implemented Apple’s MRJ with the Internet Explorer. The MRJ implementation was designed to provide customers greater security, by providing Secure Sockets Layer sessions to Java applets. Our current understanding of the problem is that when an unknowing user visits a Web site with malicious code, the site could download an image from another Web site, such as an intranet that the user has permission to access, without the user’s permission. Microsoft is committed to industry leadership in security and working on getting a better understanding of the issue. We will be providing a fix in a future update, but in the meantime, we recommend that people who are concerned disable Java.
