I hear about real-time reporting and data warehouse-based reports in SAP. What are these, how do they differ and do I have to know the difference?
You will not have to know the source of your report. Real-time, or “up to the second,” reporting will be provided out of the SAP transactional system. Any reporting that does not require real-time data will be produced in a data warehouse, which is a repository for institutional data that is updated on a regular basis—typically daily. Data warehouses are designed to facilitate reporting and analysis and include the business intelligence (BI) tools that will enable us to retrieve and analyze the data required for a report. The bulk of the University’s reporting needs, including some operational reports, analytical and strategic reports, and dashboards, will be based on data stored in a data warehouse.
