I have very dry hair, and I have tried hot oil treatment & not washing my hair as often to try and make it look healthier but that just makes my hair look greasy. Does anyone know a remedy to fix dry hair without putting too much oil or chemicals into it?

You could try a spray leave-in conditioner. They are a lot lighter than hot oil treatments. I would recommend a gentle shampoo, because you don’t want to dry it out further. And I would avoid heavy conditioners, as well, as your hair sounds like it wouldn’t react very well to them any better than the oil treatment. A good choice would be Joico products. They are specifically designed to allow the conditioning proteins they contain to penetrate the hair shaft without any heat. The shampoos are gentle and the conditioners are light. They are also pretty affordable. I would avoid product lines like Mane-n-Tail, because these are really quite heavy and can leave some hair types feeling greasy.

First of all, you need a gentle, low lathering shampoo so I would advise you to try Nexxus Humectant Therappe (Or Suave’s Salon Professionals version which is almost just as great) and a good conditioner. A leave in (in addition to your regular conditioner) like Infusium 23 is also very beneficial. If your hair is long, try ONLY washing your scalp using no more shampoo than about the size of a nickel or less. Rub it in well only on the scalp and rinse. The rest of your hair doesnt need much cleanser… water alone cleans it well enough. When my stylist first suggested this to me, I thought she was crazy but Ive now used this technique for many years and my hair has never looked better. In addition to this… a regular trim works wonders!
