I have the Windows Vista upgrade disc and I just bought a new hard drive. Do I need to reinstall Windows Xp and Windows Vista again or is there an eaiser way to do it?
if you look on the rear of the hard drive, there is a row of pinned plugs. the longest is the IDE, which will connect the drive to your motherboard. next to that is another one with little clips connecting two pins together. either on top of this or on the sticker on top is a guide on how to set it to master or slave. if you want to use it just for storage choose slave. but if you are removing the other hard drive, keep it to master. **note** if you are running SATA or SATAII this procedure may not apply. they use different connectors. (serial ATA is much faster than IDE but if your motherboard is IDE only you cannot buy a SATA enable HDD.) I would recommend that you keep your other harddrive and use the new one as a slave. therefore you can keep vista and you have extended storage space.
