I have the unit properly connected to Earth Ground, but the sensor still got damaged. What did I do wrong?
Although the reader has a proper connection to Earth Ground, it is possible for the sensor to still be damaged unless the Ridge-Lock is always used as the first point of contact. The Ridge-Lock is made of a conductive material and should act as the first point of contact a user has with the reader. If the ridge-lock is not used, and users instead approach the sensor directly as if it is a button, then ESD will discharge on the sensor and possibly damage it. Bioscrypt recommends training all users to properly approach the reader by use of the Ridge-Lock. The Enrollment Tips section contains an example of this technique which may be downloaded for distribution among users.
