Talbots has long been committed to doing business only with suppliers that treat their workers in accordance with the law and respect their workers’ human rights in the factories at which products are manufactured for us. As part of our commitment, we have established a Code of Conduct for Suppliers. We also require our suppliers to certify annually that their factories are in full compliance with the laws of the countries in which they operate and with respect for the human rights of their workers. In fact, since 1997, we have had a position of Director of Merchandise Compliance, with responsibility for assuring that our compliance standards are met. In addition, Talbots vendors are subject to inspection and monitoring, and those who fail to comply with our Code and applicable law risk the loss of all future contracts with us.
