In general it is better to avoid implementing custom activities: In the first case your custom event driven activity would have to perform database call which seems to be separate activity from design point of view and perform state transition which seems to be completely separate activity. So you want to merge two undependable “activities” into one. Second case seems to be too trivial and custom activity is not needed.
