I have received an e-mail message with the attachment removed by mimedefang, what does this mean?
All e-mail traffic into our network is scanned for virus attachments and spam content. If an attachment is detected by the system as containing a known virus, the controlling program ‘mimedefang’ will automatically strip off the attachment and trash it and insert some text into the remainder of the mail message letting you know this has happened. All messages also pass through our spam detection system which will analyse the message structure and give the total message a ‘spam score’. If the message looks to be spam, ie. the score is between 5.0 and 7.0, it will insert some text to the bottom of your e-mail indicating the ‘spam score’. If the spam score is higher than 7.0, the message is automatically junked and never reaches you.
