I have not had the opportunity to play on great vintage mouthpieces. What are the differences between the “old greats” and contemporary mouthpieces?
Although there have been many different designs through the years, the primary difference is in the material. The fine rubber produced almost a hundred years ago is what made the old vintage mouthpieces sound so good. What you, the player, would experience is a combination of improved feel and sound. The feel of the playing experience allows for a new freedom to express your musical ideas. The sound is sweet and full of life and resonance.
