I have incurred substantial cost recently with the reduction in tiers due to having child only coverage. What caused the reduction in tiers?
MSU simplified the tier choices which allowed for price comparisons with other insurance plans. The four tier structure is standard across the insurance industry for fully insured plans. However, as a result of the Universitys decision to withdraw membership from MSU, our plan could return to those tiers. If we were a self-insured plan, such a change could decrease the child only rate but increase the children rate.
