I have heard that the calcium to phosphorus ratio is important. What does that mean and why is it important?
Not only is it important to maintain healthy amounts of calcium & phosphorus, it is also important to maintain a ratio, ideally between 1:1 and no higher than 2:1. This is a wide range and most manufacturers are able to achieve this. The most important values are the absolute values that the ratios are based upon. We believe that the percent calcium and phosphorus should be kept at levels that are not excessive while also supporting a very healthy animal. Excess calcium and phosphorus may both lead to super-saturation of the urine with these minerals.
