Generally this is true. The Fiberseal surface is totally non-porous and non-reactive, whereas a regular plaster finish is always dissolving alkali into the water, thereby raising the alkalinity. We recommend chlorinating with tablets in a floater. Tablets have dry acid and conditioner added when manufactured. This dry acid will tend to lower the ph and alkalinity with time. Liquid chlorine has salt added during manufacturing to stabilize the chlorine, so it will tend to raise the ph and alkalinity.
