I have heard that demanding cease or stop contact can actually shorten the collection timeframe so it ends up at an attorney faster?
Research and field testing shows this as untrue. If you demand stop contact, the collector may not wait to return your account at the end of their contract period, but may return the account almost immediately. This normally starts the same cycle with the next collector. Since there are often several collectors in the cycle, this process can be at least one year. Note that even after we send a Stop Contact demand a collector can contact you once more.
