I have heard that child support can be paid in several different ways. What are they?
The most simplistic means of paying child support is by one of the parents making direct payments to the other. Thus, one parent simply provides a check, money order or cash to the other parent in the mail or in person. In addition, child support can be payable through the Support Collection Unit. The support payer sends a check or money order to the Support Collection Unit, and the agency follows this up with a check to the custodial parent. The agency also keeps track of all the payments and is aware when support arrears have accrued. The third method of paying child support is through an income deduction order. Thus, payments are garnished from the non-custodial parent’s salary and sent to the Support Collection Unit who subsequently forwards the payment to the recipient spouse.
