• Freon (R-22) was the industry standard in refrigerant for many years. Puron (410A) is the new industry standard and has been mandated for all equipment manufactured beginning in 2010.The R-22 refrigerant is still available for use in existing systems. As this refrigerant phases out it will become more expensive and less available. Air conditioning systems and heat pumps utilize the refrigerants in a sealed system. If you find you need refrigerant added to your system, there is a problem that needs to be addressed through a repair or replacement. The Clean Air Act does not permit any refrigerant to be released into the atmosphere. They must be reclaimed, recycled or reused. Some R-22 systems are still available; however the 410A systems are more efficient, readily available, and environmentally friendly.
