I have downloaded some GIS data for Bangladesh, but every time I display it using my chosen software, it displays using a different colour. Why is this?
The individual datasets which we have made available do not contain information about how the datasets should be displayed. ESRI software chooses a random colour to display them, which is different every time. You need to choose how you want the features displayed, then save your choice as a view of the data, a map or a project, according to which software you are using. I have spreadsheets containing statistical data or other data containing references to places. How can I link with the project? Most statistical data and much scholarly data has a spatial component. The data often relates to areas within political boundaries, either current or historical. The project is building up collection of GIS data which draws such areas as closed polygons enabling them to be coloured according to the values of chosen variables. Alternatively, data can be displayed as points as long as there is an identifying geographical reference or an identifiable place name which can be linked to a gazetteer
