The UMLSKS maintains a certain number of UMLS releases available for searching which is dependent upon NLM resources. If the release has been designated as available, there are three ways in which the older release may be accessed. • For users of the web, the Basic Search, Restricted Search, and Raw ASCII Records Search allow users to select the UMLS release to search from a pulldown menu. • For uses of the socket interface, the XML command passed must contain either the tag or the tag with the appropriate UMLS release designated. • For uses of the RMI API, all methods that take a release as an argument should be updated to specify the proper release identifier. Usable release identifiers can be determined by using the API method describeUMLSVersions.
