I have answered two questions tonight from people scared of going to hell. Should Christians feel shame?
Christians would rather have people actually go to hell than have their beliefs overthrown. Hell is named after a pagan Nordic goddess called Hel. She was in charge of the Underworld. The concept of Hell is taken from Egyptian and Greek thought and pushed to the extreme. Origen, a highly intelligent Church Father, admitted that this doctrine was proposed to encourage better moral behaviour in the unconverted and ‘simpler’ believers.
