I have an ionization type electronic air cleaner and noticed dust on my TV and computer screen. What causes this to happen?
Electronic air cleaners to date have been “ionizing” type air cleaners that positively charge all the particles in the air. In theory they will then collect to the negatively (or grounded) collector plates. The problem is that when the plates become dirty (usually within only a couple of hours) the positively charged finer particles slip past the plates. These particles still carry a positive electrical charge and will then cling to grounded surfaces in the house such as TV screens or things metallic.
